Why Therapy?

"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it fate”- Carl Jung

Psychotherapy is a relationship where you can explore the nature of your troubles and change the determinants of these by experiencing unrecognised parts of yourself in order that you may experience greater meaning and fulfilment going forward.

Often people are responding to life because of conditioned patterns or ideas that operate unconsciously (in other words we haven’t yet noticed that these beliefs, attitudes, or habits are operating). Such mechanisms might have once served a valid purpose but often become destructive later-on in life, cutting individuals off from who they really are. Alienation from oneself is the most common cause of depressions, anxieties, and unhealthy relationship patterns. These issues often prompt a need for other unhelpful behaviours, such as avoidance of healthy intimacy and social life, over-work leading to burn out, or addictions/unwanted reoccurring patterns.

Many troublesome issues, such as addiction or depression, are in essence an impulse to reach beyond whatever blocks have formed to protect us (but which ended up alienating us from fully engaging and becoming the best version of ourselves.) So, in these painful or destructive patterns an underlying and sometimes misguided search for a more fulfilling and complete experience can be observed. Perhaps nowadays it is especially unclear how to satisfy this natural yearning to live a well-rounded life. A large part of my work is to help individuals guide themselves more effectively in this regard. I consider that moving towards a more total and meaningful experience is the way to gradually remove the need to act out bad imitations of contentment, or to suffer with mental health troubles because of a prolonged absence of it.
